Course Description
The Personal Safety and Social Responsibility (PSSR) course forms part of the mandatory basic safety training for all seafarers.
Consisting of lectures, films and demonstrations, our theory based half-day PSSR course provides basic induction training in safety procedures and accident prevention, familiarising new seafarers with employment and working conditions aboard.
Learning objectives
The Personal Safety and Social Responsibility (PSSR) course teaches knowledge of and compliance with safe working practices at a basic level.
Subjects covered include:
- Human relationships on-board ship.
- Understanding orders and to be understood in relation to shipboard duties.
- Compliance with emergency procedures.
- Precautions to prevent pollution of the marine environment.
The course consists of lectures, films and demonstrations.
Assessment and Certification
On completion of the course you will receive the Certificate of Proficiency in Personal Safety and Social Responsibility STCW A-VI/1, para 2.1.4 certificate.
E-Learning and Exit Examination
Please note that all exit exams are now conducted online the DGS website and can only be attempted once the candidates have complete the requisite e-learning hours on the DGS website.
Candidates are allowed a total of three attempts only. If you do not pass on the third attempt, that particular course has to be repeated after paying the full course fees again.
Note: As per DGS instructions it is mandatory to attempt the exit exams from the institute.
